SNOW!

A week ago today, we had 8 inches of snow!  That is A LOT for us and it was tons of fun!

We missed three days of school, but less than the county that we used to be in - and they told us way in advance.  It was great to have extra time to plan and know that we would be looking for childcare or working from home.  In fact, we used the extra time to plan a play date and the kids had a blast.  Tyler had two friends over and Katie had one and then went to another friend's house in the afternoon.  They loved playing in the last bit of snow with their friends, and having playdates that they never got/get to have (and always wanted to) because they have two working parents.  It was really fun, but now I have had my snow fix and am ready to get on with Spring!

It's crazy, though, that I already have to turn my thoughts to summer plans (and we don't even know what we are going to do with them for Spring Break)!  The most popular camps are already filling up (or full) and others will soon - so I'm trying to map out when they will go to camp, when they will visit my parents, when we will go on a beach vacation, and when someone may be available to "nanny."  Yep, this year we have decided to hire a "nanny" in hopes that they can be on the swim team (practices are over at 9:30 am which doesn't work with our work schedules and they can't get to camps that late or go to meets on Mondays without someone else watching them), play at the pool, and just have a more traditional summer hanging out with neighborhood friends and inevitably getting "bored" and having to find ways to entertain themselves!  So, even though we have four months until school is out - my brain is already on summer!

There are so many camp options!  We are doing a couple of weeks with friends - and they will love going in knowing some other kids for a change.  But, much to their chagrin we will probably also send them to the "cheaper" camp option a couple of weeks too because I know they will meet people and have fun and $200 per week per kid is a little less daunting than some of these other camp prices.  We were gung ho about sending Tyler to a special camp at Vanderbilt - and had a whole lot of hoops to jump through to get the info we needed to verify he is eligible - and then found out that the camp is $585 for the week (just for him) and ends at 3:00 - that is not ideal in any way!  So, even though he does qualify he won't be going to that camp! They are going to get to do some pretty fun stuff, though.  They are going to a camp that offers acting, movie production, songwriting, photography, making a band, and stomp dancing, another that is all about good old fashioned fun like playing in creeks, archery, and horseback riding, and another that will include sports, paintball, and arts and crafts and that's all in addition to getting to visit with grandparents, aunts and cousins, go to the beach with us (they still like that for now), and play at the pool - should be a fun summer.  Hopefully, I will post sometime before then, though, with updates about Spring Break, baseball and soccer season, and the second half of 2nd grade!
